Pedant, I thought that was Brian Moore commentating not Barry Davies? Remember it well back in 1993.

He did the games in the North West for the Big Match in the 70's,good at his job.

Outstanding radio commentator, awful TV commentator, despite excellent work on calling out racism. Completely incapable of letting the picture tell the story.

I try to imagine how he would have dealt with the Dutch "He's gonna flick it" goal - where Barry Davies had the wit to let 28 seconds of silence become a scream into a void of frustration - and just can't.

And don't get me started on his Olympic rowing commentaries.
